Sony ECM-W5T Wireless Microphone Transmitter

The Sony ECM-W5T is a wireless microphone/transmitter designed to expand the Sony ECM-W5 system or record audio independently. When paired with the separately available ECM-W5 receiver, it delivers high-quality wireless audio for compatible Sony cameras equipped with a Multi Interface (MI) Shoe featuring a digital audio interface. With 64GB of built-in storage for independent recording and backup, flexible clip and magnetic mounting options, and a locking lavalier microphone input, the ECM-W5T is well suited to interviews, event reporting, live streaming, and content creation.

High-Resolution Audio and Reliable Wireless Transmission

Used with the ECM-W5 receiver, the ECM-W5T supports digital audio capture at up to 96 kHz/24-bit or 48 kHz/32-bit float. Compatible Sony cameras can record 32-bit float audio directly into the video file, allowing quiet voices and sudden volume peaks to be adjusted during postproduction while simplifying file management and synchronization. Low-latency wireless transmission reaches distances of up to approximately 1,640 feet under line-of-sight conditions. Bluetooth hopping technology and an optimized wireless design help maintain a stable connection and minimize dropouts, even in crowded radio environments. Adding the ECM-W5T to an ECM-W5 system also enables expanded speaker coverage, with compatible equipment supporting simultaneous recording of up to four speakers on separate tracks.

64GB Internal Recording and Audio Backup

The ECM-W5T features 64GB of internal storage, allowing it to record audio independently without a receiver or camera. This standalone recording capability is useful for voice capture and provides an additional backup when recording wirelessly. Built-in recording start/stop controls offer convenient operation during interviews and other productions, helping streamline recording without requiring constant access to connected equipment.

Recorded files can be transferred to a computer over USB-C, either directly from the transmitter or through a compatible charging case. The ECM-W5T can also connect to compatible smartphones and computers, providing additional flexibility for mobile recording and other content creation workflows.

Locking Lavalier Input and Flexible Mounting

A mono 3.5mm external microphone input allows the ECM-W5T to work with compatible lavalier microphones, including the separately available Sony ECM-L1. Its locking TRS connector helps prevent accidental cable disconnection during recording, while an external lavalier microphone can be positioned close to the speaker's mouth for discreet voice capture. Clip and magnetic attachment options provide versatile mounting on clothing or suitable surfaces. The understated design helps keep the microphone inconspicuous on camera, while its upright form factor also makes it convenient to hold for handheld reporting and live streaming.

Extended Battery Life and Convenient Controls

The ECM-W5T delivers up to seven hours of continuous operation on a full charge. When used as part of an ECM-W5 system with the receiver powered through a compatible camera's MI Shoe, recharging the transmitter through the charging case can extend total operating time to up to 11 hours. LED indicators provide quick visual confirmation of power, recording, and wireless connection status. When configured with a compatible ECM-W5 receiver and Sony camera, camera-linked power control can also switch on the transmitter remotely, helping simplify setup and operation during extended recording sessions.
