Summilux Performance
The fast f/1.4 aperture is ideal for available-light photography, portraiture, and situations where selective focus is desired. Its updated optical design is optimized for modern high-resolution sensors, providing excellent sharpness, resolution, and contrast. One aspherical element helps suppress spherical aberrations and distortion, contributing to clean, highly accurate image rendering. The new 11-blade diaphragm also produces smoother, more naturally rounded bokeh, particularly when shooting at intermediate apertures.
M-Mount Lens Design
Beyond its optical improvements, the Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. features a refreshed exterior that follows the sleek, lightweight styling of newer Summilux-M lenses such as the 35mm f/1.4. Its minimum focusing distance has been reduced from 2.3' to 1.5', expanding its close-up capabilities when using Live View, the Visoflex electronic viewfinder, or the Leica FOTOS app. Rangefinder focusing remains available down to 2.3', while focusing between 2.3' and 1.5' requires Live View-based focusing.
An integrated, retractable lens hood provides convenient protection without requiring a separate accessory. The compact 2.3 x 2.3" design weighs just under 12 oz, making it an especially portable choice for everyday M-mount photography. A conventional M bayonet mount with 6-bit encoding allows the lens to be used across Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras while providing electronic lens recognition and compatibility with camera functions.
