The new Ultravid line of binoculars have significant improvements over the existing Trinovids. The new body shell is made of lightweight but sturdy magnesium, and is about one cm shorter than the current BN range. The hinge shaft has been replaced with a new light weight titanium version. The prisms are also coated with the new Leica Highlux System, which is a newly developed mirror layer. This increases light transmission considerably, and in addition, the improved optical and mechanical configuration markedly reduces stray light. Naturally, these binoculars are dry nitrogen filled, waterproof to 5m and have a close focus of 2m.
