As the second evolution of this iconic 50mm design, it combines a fast f/1.4 aperture with a refined rendering style inspired by the Summilux-M 50mm.
This bright aperture excels in low-light conditions while producing smooth, natural bokeh, making it equally suited for portraiture, product photography, still life, and travel. A redesigned physical construction also makes the lens noticeably more compact and lightweight, improving everyday usability without compromising performance.
Rather than focusing solely on technical perfection, this lens is designed to produce images with character and dimensionality. At f/1.4, it delivers soft, organic background blur and strong subject separation, naturally guiding attention to the main subject.

Built for modern hybrid workflows, the lens features a sophisticated autofocus system powered by a Voice Coil Motor (VCM). This design enables rapid, precise focusing with minimal noise, making it ideal for both still photography and video recording.
With a lightweight focusing group of approximately 1.6 ounces and high-speed actuation reaching around 131 feet per second, autofocus remains responsive even in fast-paced shooting scenarios, all while maintaining smooth and unobtrusive operation.
The lens achieves its compact size through advanced optical engineering and Leica’s in-house manufacturing expertise. It incorporates two aspherical elements along with premium glass types and an eleven-blade aperture to deliver high image quality across the frame, even at a close focusing distance of just 1.6 feet.
Distortion is carefully controlled through optical design and can be further refined digitally when needed.
Constructed from full metal, the lens is built for durability in demanding conditions. Its IP54 rating provides protection against dust and water splashes, while Leica’s AquaDura coating adds an extra layer of resistance against environmental elements.
