Sigma
Designed to cover an exceptionally broad range of shooting situations, the Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary Lens is an all-in-one zoom for APS-C mirrorless cameras. With an 18.8x zoom range spanning wide-angle to super-telephoto, the lens delivers a 24-450mm-equivalent focal length range while remaining compact enough for travel. Fast HLA autofocus, powerful optical stabilization, close-up capability, and a weather-resistant design make it a versatile choice for photographers who want to carry one lens without sacrificing shooting flexibility.
The expansive 16-300mm focal length range covers everything from architecture, interiors, and landscapes to portraits, street photography, distant subjects, action, and wildlife. At the 16mm wide-angle position, the lens provides a 24mm-equivalent field of view, while the 300mm telephoto end reaches an impressive 450mm equivalent on APS-C cameras. This makes it particularly well suited to travel and everyday photography where changing lenses is not always practical.
The lens also offers impressive close-up performance. At 70mm, it achieves a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2, allowing photographers to capture detailed images of smaller subjects. Maximum magnification is 1:3 at the wide end and 1:4 at the telephoto end, adding useful versatility throughout the zoom range.
Sigma's HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) provides fast, accurate autofocus by quickly moving the focusing group. Its responsive operation is well suited to subjects that move unpredictably, helping photographers maintain focus while tracking action.
The lens incorporates Sigma's OS2 optical stabilization algorithm, the same technology used in the company's larger super-telephoto lenses. Image stabilization provides up to 6 stops of compensation at 16mm and 4.5 stops at the telephoto end, helping reduce the effects of camera shake for sharper handheld images, particularly in low-light conditions and when shooting at longer focal lengths.
The optical design incorporates low-dispersion glass elements and four aspherical elements to control aberrations while maintaining high sharpness, clarity, and accurate color reproduction throughout the zoom and focusing ranges. Sigma has also optimized the lens to resist flare and minimize ghosting under a variety of lighting conditions.
Focus breathing is carefully controlled, making the lens useful not only for still photography but also for video applications and photographers working with multi-shot composite techniques.
Despite its expansive 18.8x zoom range, the Sigma 16-300mm remains relatively compact and portable, measuring approximately 4.8 inches in length and weighing about 1.4 lb. Its broad focal length coverage makes it an especially practical travel companion when carrying multiple lenses is inconvenient.
Dust- and splash-resistant sealing provides added reliability when working in challenging weather conditions, while a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element helps protect the surface and makes it easier to clean. A zoom lock switch at the wide-angle end prevents unwanted lens extension when the lens is being stored or transported.
