The optical formula of this lens was 'borrowed'and used in the design of the Canon AF Zoom FD 35-70mm f4.0. Because focusing is more difficult at the wide-angle end than at telephoto, the faster aperture of the New FD 35-70mm f/2.8-3.5 is a great help in focusing. An additional feature is the macro mechanism which, like that of the New FD 28-50mm f/3.5, permits close focusing. Pushing a switch and turning the zoom ring moves the lens into the macro range where close focusing is controlled by the zoom ring. Well suited to nature and still-life shooting, its macro feature enables a wide range of general close-up work. Precise reproduction or copy work, however, is best accomplished with one of the Canon macro lenses.
