The Yashica FX-2 is a fully mechanical 35mm SLR film camera introduced by Yashica in 1976. It is highly regarded by Reddit's analog community as a robust, no-nonsense entry point for beginners and students learning traditional film photography.

Fully Mechanical Operation: The camera uses a metal focal-plane shutter that operates entirely without a battery. If your battery dies, the camera remains fully operational—you only lose the built-in exposure meter.
The C/Y Lens Mount: The FX-2 was one of the earliest bodies to adopt the Contax/Yashica (C/Y) bayonet mount. This allows you to pair the rugged body with relatively affordable Yashica ML/DSB lenses, or adapt ultra-premium Carl Zeiss glass.
Shutter Speeds: Features a speed range from 1 second to 1/1000th of a second, plus a Bulb (B) mode for long exposures.
Through-The-Lens (TTL) Metering: Uses a needle-based exposure display inside the viewfinder. While it originally ran on 1.3V mercury batteries, it can easily be operated with modern 1.5V LR44 or zinc-air replacements with minimal impact on accuracy.
