The Tamron Teleconverter 1.4x (often referred to in older Tamron catalogs as the SP AF Teleconverter 140-CA 1.4x) is an optical accessory that attaches between a compatible Tamron lens and a camera body to extend the effective reach of the lens by a factor of 1.4×. Instead of being a lens in its own right, this teleconverter contains additional lens elements that magnify the image projected by the main lens, giving you greater telephoto reach without needing a longer, heavier lens. When mounted, the focal length of the paired lens increases by 40 %, though the maximum light transmission is reduced by about one stop, so you’ll need correspondingly slower shutter speeds or higher ISO.
