The Sears Auto Zoom 80‑200mm f/4 Telephoto Zoom Lens for Pentax K (and its many variants under the Sears name for Pentax PK/K-mount) is a vintage telephoto zoom from the era when department stores like Sears sold re-branded optics aimed at budget-minded photographers. It spans a useful 80–200 mm range with a constant f/4 aperture throughout, which was attractive in its day because it promised consistent exposure and depth-of-field as you zoomed.

Mechanically it’s a manual-focus zoom built like many consumer lenses of the 1970s–1980s: fairly solid in the hand, typically push-pull or one-touch zoom action, and with simple controls that don’t require electronics. The constant f/4 aperture isn’t especially fast by modern standards, but it does give a predictable exposure profile. Optically, this Sears telephoto doesn’t match the performance of first-party Pentax glass or higher-end third-party zooms from the same period; many shooters find it somewhat soft wide open, with modest contrast and a character that some describe as “vintage” rather than clinical. Stopping down improves sharpness and renders a smoother look, and some copies include a macro extension or close-focus feature that’s handy for basic near work.
