Schneider-Kreuznach 67mm Center Filter III
Schneider-Kreuznach 67mm Center Filter III
A highly specialized concentric neutral density (ND) filter designed in Germany to counteract the natural light fall-off (vignetting) inherent in large-format, ultra-wide-angle lenses. By featuring a neutral gray coating that is densest in the center and gradually clears toward the edge, it evens out field illumination for critical film and digital applications.
Core Technical Specifications
- Rear Thread Size: 67mm (mounts directly onto the front of the lens)
- Front Thread Size: 86mm (oversized to prevent mechanical vignetting when stacking additional filters, like polarizers)
- Cap Size: Requires a 90mm push-on lens cap
- Exposure Compensation: Adds a 1.5-stop filter factor, requiring a manual adjustment to your exposure settings
- Optics: Multi-coated Schott glass housed in a premium black metal ring to minimize internal reflections and preserve color neutrality
Primary Lens Compatibility
This specific "III" variant is engineered to pair perfectly with the following large-format lenses to optimize edge-to-edge resolution and exposure balance:
- Schneider Super-Angulon 65mm f/5.6
- Schneider Super-Angulon 75mm f/5.6
- Schneider Super-Symmar XL wide-angle series
Operational Best Practices
- Stop Down Your Aperture: For the concentric ND gradation to properly align with the lens's light path, you must stop the lens down at least two full stops below its maximum aperture (e.g., shooting at f/11 or f/16).
- Filter Stacking Order: This center filter must always be screwed directly onto the lens first. Any auxiliary filters, such as a polarizer or standard solid ND, should be attached to the front 86mm threads.
