Description

Pre-Owned - Sakar Auto 2x Tele Converter for Minolta MD Mount

The Sakar Auto 2x Tele Converter for Minolta MD Mount is a vintage, manual-focus optical accessory manufactured in Japan during the 1970s. It is designed to sit between a Minolta MD mount SLR camera body and a compatible manual-focus lens to double the effective focal length of that lens.

Key Technical Specifications & Impact:

• Focal Length Multiplication: 2.0x. For example, attaching it to a standard 50mm lens transforms it into a 100mm lens.

• Light Loss: Like all 2x teleconverters, it causes a 2-stop loss of light. A lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 effectively behaves like an f/5.6 lens.

• Aperture Coupling: The "Auto" designation signifies that it features a mechanical coupling lever. This transmits aperture information between the lens ring and the camera's light meter, maintaining automatic diaphragm stop-down when you fire the shutter.

• Optics & Composition: It features multi-coated glass elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting while keeping weight to a minimum.

Compatibility Considerations:

• Mount Type: Built explicitly for the manual-focus Minolta MD mount. It can also physically couple with earlier Minolta MC and SR lenses.

• Camera Body Constraints: While it fits seamlessly on mechanical Minolta SLRs (like the SRT series) and later bodies (like the X-700), using older MC-type teleconverters on advanced MD bodies may limit you strictly to manual or Aperture Priority metering, overriding full program auto-exposure modes.

• Lens Recommendations: It is generally recommended for prime or telephoto lenses 50mm or longer. Teleconverters are typically not recommended for wide-angle lenses due to severe degradation of edge sharpness and distortion.
