The Revere Model 85 8mm Movie Projector is a classic, post-World War II silent film projector manufactured by the Revere Camera Company in Chicago, Illinois. Launched in 1949, this heavy-duty, highly dependable machine became a staple of American living rooms for projecting 8mm home movies.
Key Technical Specifications:
Film Format: Standard 8mm (Double 8) silent film. It is not compatible with Super 8 film.
Projector Lamp: Utilizes a 500-watt CZXDAB lamp, but can also run a 300-watt CXY or CXK bulb.
Controls: Includes a manual motor speed control knob, a forward/rewind switch, and an independent lamp toggle.
Build: Solid, dark brown metallic body paired with a matching rugged carrying case and integrated handle.
Performance & Safety Considerations While the Revere Model 85 is highly praised for its "theater quality" projection, operating one requires caution.
Film Damage Risks: These older models use incredibly hot high-wattage bulbs. If the internal glass heat shield is missing or the motor slows down, the heat can instantly shrivel, melt, or burn your vintage film.
Threading Loops: Correctly manual-threading the sprocket gears is critical. Inexact loops will cause the film to shudder, shake, or tear the sprocket holes.
Rewind Function: To safely rewind, you must bypass the main internal gate mechanism and feed the film directly back to the top reel to prevent snapping.
