Extension tubes are hollow spacers placed between a camera body and lens to let the lens focus much closer than normal. By increasing the distance between the lens and the sensor, they increase magnification, making them useful for macro photography (like flowers or insects). They don’t contain glass, so they don’t affect image quality directly, but they do reduce light reaching the sensor and limit focusing to close distances.
