The MK Controls Lightning Bug is a camera accessory, specifically a lightning trigger, that helps photographers automatically capture lightning strikes by detecting the immediate burst of infrared light that precedes a bolt. It mounts to a camera's hot shoe and connects via a separate camera-specific cable.
Key Features:
Automatic Triggering: The device's sensor detects the infrared light change from a lightning strike and automatically triggers the camera's shutter in a very short period of time.
Adjustable Sensitivity: Photographers have control over 26 levels of sensitivity, allowing them to capture distant strikes (higher sensitivity) or only the brightest, closest bolts (lower sensitivity).
Water-Resistant Design: The unit is designed to withstand exposure to rain and features weather-resistant soft-touch buttons for use during storms.
Customizable Frames Per Second (FPS): The user can limit the number of possible exposures per second to between 1 and 10, which helps in capturing repeated strikes successfully.
PC Port for Flash: A built-in PC port allows external flash units to be used for fill lighting on foreground objects, expanding creative possibilities.
Power Source: It operates on a single standard 9V battery. The newer Lightning Bug Plus version also supports rechargeable batteries and external power via USB-C.
Firmware Updatable: The "Plus" version of the product has field-updatable firmware via a USB-C connection, allowing for future enhancements.
Fireworks Delay Mode: An exclusive feature on some versions that adds a delay (0 to 2.25 seconds) to capture fireworks displays more effectively.
