The Ilford Cibachrome Color Processing Drum is a vintage darkroom tool designed for developing Cibachrome (later Ilfochrome) color prints. Made by Ilford, it features a light tight cylindrical design that allows photographers to process color prints in complete darkness using minimal chemistry. The smooth interior ensures even distribution of developer and bleach fix solutions, while the secure end caps prevent light leaks during agitation. Typically used with a roller base or by hand rolling, the drum can handle sheet sizes such as 8×10 or 11×14 inches and requires only a small amount of solution, around 75 mL per bath for an 8×10 print. Originally part of the high quality Cibachrome dye bleach process, known for its vivid color saturation, sharpness, and archival permanence, the drum remains popular among fine art printers and collectors. Though no longer manufactured, it’s valued for its precision design, chemical efficiency, and role in preserving a classic photographic process.
