The Canon EOS Adapter VL is a rare, vintage piece of equipment designed by Canon to mount full-frame electronic Canon EF lenses onto vintage VL mount camcorders, such as the 1990s Canon EX1 and EX2 Hi8 video cameras.
Technical Specifications & Features:
Direction of Use: Adapts a female Canon EF lens mount to a male Canon VL camera mount. It cannot be used backward to put VL lenses on modern EOS DSLR or mirrorless bodies.
Power Source: It requires a dedicated internal battery (typically housed in a small side compartment on the adapter) to power the electronics.
Electronic Communication: It translates data from the 14-byte VL mount SPI-like protocol to the Canon EF electronic system. This allows the camcorder's body to control the lens's Autofocus (AF) and electronic Iris/Aperture.
Crop Factor: Because VL mount camcorders use tiny 1/2-inch CCD sensors compared to 35mm full-frame EF lenses, using this adapter results in a massive crop factor (roughly 5.4x). A standard 50mm lens will look like a tight telephoto lens on a VL camera.
Pre-Owned - Canon EOS Adapter VL f/ EF Lens to VL Mount lets you connect Canon EF lenses to compatible VL camcorders. This adapter is in like new condition and supports electronic lens control for smoother results. It transfers communication between the VL mount and EF electronics, helping maintain autofocus and electronic iris operation when supported. You can use it to expand your lens options for vintage video workflows, including models from the 1990s. The adapter requires its own internal battery to power the electronics. Please confirm your camera has a VL mount and that you are adapting EF to VL, not the reverse. Includes a 100 day warranty for added confidence.
