The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM is a versatile standard prime lens that combines a natural field of view with a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture. Its wide aperture makes it well suited to low-light photography while providing excellent control over depth of field for isolating subjects and creating attractive background blur.
The lens uses a Gaussian optical design with two high-refractive-index elements to minimize spherical aberrations and distortion, delivering sharp, clear, and accurate images. Canon’s Super Spectra coating helps reduce flare and ghosting, improving contrast and maintaining natural color reproduction in challenging lighting conditions.
Autofocusing is handled by a micro Ultrasonic Motor (USM), providing fast, accurate, and quiet focusing along with full-time manual focus override. A rounded eight-blade diaphragm further enhances the quality of out-of-focus areas, making the lens particularly effective for selective-focus and shallow-depth-of-field photography.
Designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, the lens can also be used with APS-C cameras, where it provides an 80mm-equivalent focal length.
